Under s111 of the Administration and Probate Act 1969 (NT), Grants of Probates and Letters of Administration that are “issued by a court of competent jurisdiction”, will operate as if granted in the Northern Territory once they are ‘Resealed’.
NT Reseals of Probate and Letters of Administration may be obtained for any other state in Australia, as well as New Zealand, the UK, and other countries.
If you are an executor or administrator from interstate or overseas, we will be happy to assist you in obtaining the Reseal of Probate or Letters of Administration in the Northern Territory.
It is not necessary for you to fly to Sydney and all correspondence can be done via email/mail/telephone.
Initially, we will simply require a copy or scan of your original Grant, some basic contact details for the deceased and the executors/administrators and we can commence your application right away.
We can also correspond with the Northern Territory asset holders in order to transfer the estate assets held in the Northern Territory to you.
We have dealt with many other legal professionals interstate and internationally and are happy to obtain a reseal for your client’s Grant of Probate or Letters of Administration.
All that we require to start is a copy of the original Grant and a few details about your client (address, full names of executors/administrators) and the assets in the Northern Territory.
We can also call in the estate (i.e. correspond with the Northern Territory estate asset holders) and have such assets and funds transferred to you via our law practice trust account.
We can assist in a one-off matter, or ongoing engagements. Read more about partnering with National Probate and Estates Group.

If you have obtained Probate or Letters of Administration from another country, please contact us to discuss whether that grant can be resealed in the Northern Territory, or whether you require new application in the NT for a Grant of Probate of a Copy of a Foreign Will (or Letters of Administration).
We recommend contacting us early in the process, as you may need to obtain specific documentation through your overseas solicitor. We can advise you of the Australian requirements upfront, so you can collect the necessary documents while finalising the overseas probate, helping to streamline the Australian reseal process.
It is not uncommon for foreign nationals to hold Australian assets that fall under the legal jurisdiction of multiple Australian states or territories. This is especially common where there are multiple shareholdings. In such cases:
1. You will typically only need to obtain a reseal in one Australian state or territory.
2. You may have a choice as to which court you apply to.
We can guide you through these multi-jurisdictional issues, including advising on asset jurisdiction, and which court may be the most appropriate, efficient, or cost-effective.
We offer affordable, fixed-fee quotes for obtaining Reseals of Probate.
Answer a few brief questions and we'll provide you with a same-day quote.
